It was 10 years ago since LMF debut album was released, I fondly remembering
and rated it highly on Absolute magazine, April 1999. It was raw,
hardcore and original, it was a breath of fresh air from the canton music
scene.
In the year 2000, LMF released their second album "Tai Lan Tong" and took
their music to the Hong Kong mainstream audience, out selling some renowned
local artists. Their music combined rock/hip-hop with hardcore lyrics and
thundering vocals. In the song "La Na La" they rapped about the local music
industry, stating their money making mindset, favoring quick bucks then
talents; in 'Estate Boy" they rapped about the rough side of living in
housing estate; and in the comical "Night" rapping about their
mischievous night life. Their lyrics brings a sense of realism in canton
music, away from the over populated love songs of canton pop.
The success of "Tai Lan Tong" is very much due to it's originality, and the
band toured Asia for a few years before the members went their separate
ways. But now ten years after their debut album, they have a reunion
concert on January 2010 and a new song '揸緊中指' (download on
http://www.wildlazymf.com).
LMF may not be everyone's cup of tea, but from hearing their new song, they
are still refreshing and should an album be launched with their old magic,
the success of 2000 could well come all over again!
